PHP: Popular server-side scripting language. MySQL: Database server for data storage and retrieval. Mercury: Mail server for Windows systems. FileZilla: FTP client for transferring files. Overall, XAMPP is an excellent way to run web applications, Wordpress or other blogging and CMS platforms on a Windows system. Services must be started manually upon first install. The Control Panel of XAMPP includes the ability to start and stop services, explore the system, access the shell, run Netstat, etc. Password protection can also be enabled from the "Service Settings". The XAMPP application provides a user control panel which can enable and disable modules like Mercury, the Apache server itself, MySQL, Tomcat or FileZilla. It can run anything from Wordpress to Joomla or custom PHP. Usage scenarios for applications like XAMPP vary, but it certainly comes in handy when testing web sites on a Windows system without an Internet connection. The installation file doesn't just include the open source web server, but also MySQL, PHP and Perl for installing and testing web sites on a Windows server. XAMPP is a one-step installation of the Apache web server for Windows. Leave the Password field blank.Apache web server for Windows which includes PHP, MySQL, Tomcat and optional installation of Perl, phpMyAdmin, Webalizer and some other options. When connecting to MySQL, type localhost in the Host/Server name (or IP) field and root in the User field. Change the line sendmail_from = to sendmail_from = your_email_address. Note : To send emails via PHP, you need to modify the php.ini file. The XAMPP configuration interface is available at and is located at C:\xampp\htdocs\xampp. 
You can remove or back up these files so that they do not conflict in any way. You can add or edit the files in C:\xampp\htdocs to change what you see at Right after installation, this folder contains all the files for the XAMPP welcome web page. If you are directed to a page with the XAMPP logo, your installation was successful. In that case, you need to start and stop them manually. If you see a red X under Service - that means the module is not installed as a service.
